ARTS

During this school year all the artistic incentives were approached with great motivation and passion by both staff and students at all educational levels. In Kindergarten, integration projects continued from music classes to art workshops. Among the projects are the K4 and K5 Concerts that were held in their building, where IB Film and Music Secondary students participated by composing songs and filming the younger students. The staff also participated in the compilation of the script and aesthetics, becoming an enriching project and a true holistic learning experience.
In Primary, both level (EP1 and EP2) Concerts were outstanding, and students could choose the way in which they participated (on stage, band, backstage, design, advertising), allowing integral learning-based projects. The School of Instruments was resumed with a presentation at the end of the year with parents' participation, generating a unique moment among staff, families and students. The Choir also performed several times throughout the year and participated in the Tour to Mar del Plata with a large number of students continuing with their musical training and the skills that are acquired by this learning.
In Secondary, in the Visual Arts, Film and Theatre track, the students were guided by their teachers through creative processes generating works of remarkable quality. The culmination of these processes was enjoyed at the ARTS FESTIVAL, an initiative created to show the artistic journey of students in the IB subjects of Film, Theatre and Music, which was complemented by presentations by the school's Choirs and Bands in an unforgettable night for students and families.
The return of the Music Interhouse was one of the high points of artistic activity in Secondary when students of the different Houses prepared and rehearsed different musical pieces to present in front of their peers, staff and judges.
Within the realm of choirs, we enjoyed the long-awaited return of the Choir & Band Festival, a night in two acts where all the school choirs and bands participated, sharing with their families all the pieces learned throughout the year. As mentioned above, Y11 and Y12 students enjoyed the highly expected UK and Berlin Tour, performing in schools and cathedrals in these European countries.
In the Senior and Intermediate School Play the students premiered musical works such as You Can't Stop the Beat and Newsies where they showed everything they had learnt in productions of high artistic level and strong teamwork.
Within the more traditional artistic projects we continue with our Scottish Legacy that begins in Primary and extends to Middle and Senior School, with the practice of bagpipes, drums and Scottish dancing. During 2022, the St. Andrew's Scots School Pipe Band was formed, the first school student band, which participated in several events and had its first tour to Montevideo. Instruments and uniforms were acquired for the band members, consolidating this project and affirming the importance of the school's roots and traditions.
One of the main objectives of our curricular and extracurricular programmes is to achieve an artistic path for the student with coherence and continuity from Kindergarten to Y12, and that can also continue further on as an alumnus, or in a parents and staff community. This post-school continuity is present in the Drama Club and the Open Choir, both of which achieved a very successful participation during the year.
2022 proved once again that art is part of our identity, shown through the great enthusiasm for artistic activities of our entire community, with the desire to express, create and share, discovering talents, mentors and passions.
