Y5 students carried out a project on the uses of water. This project aimed to develop a view of water as a common good and sustainer of life on the planet. Throughout the unit, students became aware of the world water crisis, developed a global perspective of water and then investigated how water is used at our Campus to focus on the local perspective.
The project enabled students to become familiar with our water sources, availability, costs, their own family usage, and the opportunity for wise usage through different conservation techniques. As they learnt, students became engaged in Critical Thinking and worked cooperatively on different occasions, engaging in a range of collaborative conversations and building on one another's ideas. Learners throughout the whole project were able to keep on developing their communication skills by reporting on a topic or by presenting their own opinion.
As a final project, they had to write a newspaper article to communicate to our St. Andrew's community about the water crisis around the world and how water is sustainably managed at the Campus. Overall, this project was a great opportunity for our Y5 students to become aware that their participation is crucial to the future of our planet and a vital beacon of sustainability.
