SEIL: Spiritual Emotional Intelligence and Leadership

Communication does not only happen on a verbal level. We communicate with our whole body. Alex Lazlo, a great thinker and martial art master, came to school to deliver a wonderful workshop on refining our body senses and body presence.

Creativity is refreshing and makes all things new each time. We tried to create new welcome rituals for our students at the beginning of 2021 in which staff and students could have fun and also share intentions for 2021, the return year after the pandemic.

On a Collaboration note, we created the LEADERS HUB experience in which our formal leadership student teams of Prefects & Student Voice could gather, get to know each other better and exchange initiatives and projects to encourage one another.

Critical Thinking is a very important quality of leadership. That is why before Y6 students could apply for Junior Voice and Action positions we made them reflect on their strengths, areas of development and also opportunities and challenges in a broader context. The famous FODA or SWOT matrix (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats).

This initiative mixed our intention of exercising Citizenship and Collaboration. Y6 Students, staff and former students build together spaces for communal gathering. Alumni got us the pallets through a donation from a SASS parent. So truly a collaborative initiative to contribute to school life!

From a Character point of view, we cherish closing rituals which help our students develop the capacity to honour what they have lived through and also exercise the capacity to “Let go to let come”. Our magical night with Y12 2021 students was a truly epic experience of deep sharing, love, honouring the school journey.
