Back in 2020, we could not use robots with our students because of the pandemic. The IT Team in Secondary created their own Arduino robots for 2021, using said platform for each student. The main purpose was to allow students to have their own robot and then use the Ardublock platform to programme the robots. They learnt about the different parts of an autonomous robot (sensors, motors, CPU), algorithms, and programming oriented to objects. Students managed to implement basic movements. In this activity, students were able to develop the competencies of Critical Thinking, Character and Creativity.
MIT App Inventor is a block-based programming language with a development environment that runs in a browser. Using the platform our Y8 students had the opportunity to design and build their own mobile app. Students learn computational thinking skills as they engage with digital tools to find solutions to different problems. As a final project, they designed and coded a game that they previously planned, while doing so they used competencies such as Creativity, Critical thinking, Collaboration and Character.
It was very satisfactory to watch students actively engaged with the design of their game, testing their code, trying to figure out what went wrong, and seeking feedback from others.
