HIGHLIGHTS OF “A TREE MAKES A DIFFERENCE!” - 2021

At the very beginning of the year, we started with the idea of building a Forestry classroom at school. Hybrid learning and COVID protocols made our work even more challenging, but we can say now that we have accomplished our expectations. During March and April a lot of planning was done, and finally in June we built our Forestry Classroom with the help of Peter Dunn (Founder of La Lucena, Córdoba) together with all Y10 group in the Secondary Building:

We also built our Grow Beds (Canchas de Cría) in Nogoyá, where we will let our trees grow:

In the building of our Forestry Classroom, we incorporated a lot of used materials recycled from other areas of the school as a way of walking our talk: maximizing sustainability!

During August and September, we had volunteer students across school coming during Flextime and working in the Forestry Classroom. This founding group worked really hard and were crucial in getting the project off the ground! On Fridays specially, we would get together and do what was needed most; preparing plug trays, hydrating seeds, transplanting the first batch of seedlings and also taking responsibility for watering, designing posters and for creating videos to convey what we were doing to the rest of the school.

During October and November, with Spring fully in the air and a thousand things to do to try and make the best of a time that is great for sowing and germinating trees, we invited Tutor groups to join us during Flextime or Tutor time to lend a hand and learn all about our project.

Some classes even joined us and then worked on some essay writing and reflections.

We were thrilled to see our Forestry Classroom flourish during these past months and hope to see students more and more often.

Today we have around 350 trees, both jacarandas and timbos waiting to be planted where needed.

It has been a productive year, but we still have a long way to go if we want to produce 1000 trees or more. In the meantime, we can rely on the fact that our students are still developing their awareness as global citizens. We know that they will be needed in the future as critical thinkers and leaders so to develop Character, resilience and Creativity is fundamental to make our world a better place!
