IT - Computational Thinking

K5 students are learning about computational thinking. "Computational Thinking is the thought processes involved in formulating problems and their solutions so that the solutions are represented in a form that can be effectively carried out by an information-processing agent".

Cuny, Snyder, Wing, 2010.

In this activity students worked with an “unplugged” computational thinking activity that does not require the use of technology. Students must:

  • describe a problem
  • identify the important details needed to solve the problem
  • break the problem down into smaller, logical steps.
  • use these steps to create a process (algorithm) that solves the problem
  • evaluate this process.

All these skills are transferable to any other curriculum area, and focus on how to become critical thinkers at an early age.
